Free Art Experience: Teen Edition

Calling all teen artists!

The Nave Museum is proud to offer free art education to the Crossroads community as part of our commitment to enriching the lives of people of all ages through the transformative power of art.

We are excited to offer free art activities for teens on select Friday evenings from 6-7:30 PM during exhibits. The activities will be inspired by the art on display in our exhibits, these activities will allow teens to engage with our art and make some art of their own on a deeper level, while also learning about our featured artists. Projects will include painting, sculpting, papercrafts, and more!

The Art of Dr. Seuss

Teens now participate in an advanced art activity inspired by the art of our current exhibit! The teens for this exhibit observed the surreal art of Dr. Seuss's "Midnight Paintings". These paintings were often darker and more complex compared to his children's book illustrations. The students were encouraged to think outside the box and let their imagination guide them as they sketched and then painted their own surrealist, Seussian-inspired painting.

Storyboarding

This month, students learned storyboarding and the process of planning out a comic using a script and created a single-page rough draft.  Next class date in September to be announced soon!

Studio Ghibli's "My Neighbor Totoro"

It didn't matter to this sister duo that other teen participants were out of town for summer vacation-- they wanted to learn about Japanese animation Studio Ghibli's "My Neighbor Totoro" and create some art! That just meant more special one-on-one time for just the two of them :) Next class will be on Friday, August 30th at 6 PM!

The World of Jack Kirby, Osamu Tezuka, and more!

Fantastic Friday nights at Teen Art Class! Participants delved into the captivating world of comic book art, inspired by the legendary Jack Kirby of Marvel and Hanna-Barbera fame and legendary Japanese manga animator Osamu Tezuka. From learning to craft storyboards and draw their own manga covers to indulging in pizza and soda, these classes have been a blast! Can't wait for the next FREE Art Experience Class: Teen Edition on Friday, July 19th!

Creating essential Manga components

Our teen art classes are an observation of legendary animes and an exploration of creativity and self-expression. Participants have been taking the time to learn the intricacies and details necessary to develop their own anime creations.
